12 Hours at The Burgh

A great day for riding!

On October 23rd, 2004 the first race ever held at The Charlottenburgh Forest Mountain Bike Area took place. The weather was great, the trails were excellent and everyone had a great time. The 12 hour enduro proved to be a grueling event for all of the riders. The twisty turny trails we've created are a real challenge, especially for those people that ventured out on the course as a solo rider.

Even though we had to name winners of the event, everyone that participated was a real winner in my mind. I actually felt like a sadist after getting reports the course we laid out was much more rocky and technical than other races. I also got great reviews on the layout because it was a challenge. Maybe we'll do some tweaking next year, but I think the technical aspect will draw even more riders at our next race.

The big news on the day was the $5000 we raised for Easter Seal kids. Congratulations to Catweaver who raised $980 and was awarded with a BLT lighting system from Bicycle World. It was a terrific day of riding and raising money for charity.

We're doing it again this year!

This year we'll do it all again and we'll make it bigger and better. More prizes, more riders more of everything. I think we'll move it up a month in order to ensure good weather (we really lucked out last year), check back for a date. If you have any suggestions about the race please contact me and let me know what you think. Any ideas you have, good bad or indifferent are welcome.

Last but not least I would like to thank all the volunteers for their help. We couldn't have done it without you. To the sponsors...thank you so much. I would urge everyone to support our sponsors of this event, they are great local businesses.

Until next year...thanks again!

John R. Bolton.
